The 10 worst carpet stains (and how to deal with them)

Carpets give warmth to our space and decorate our home, especially during the winter months.

Because they are in our space almost permanently and accompany our house for at least half a year, it is important to keep them clean and tidy. Although it seems difficult to avoid a possible "accident" on our carpets, we should be able to separate the simple stain from the deep and be able to deal with it quickly and with the appropriate means.

Many times we treat a stain superficially or delay removing it immediately from our carpet, with the result that it penetrates deep and wears it.

The damage can be irreparable if we do not know how to act in time, believing that the stain is simple and manageable.

What are the most common carpet stains?

When the carpet is in an area that is used daily, it is very likely to get dirty.

Especially in areas of high mobility, such as the kitchen or living room, the chances of any food, drink or other object that will wear out our carpet increase.

The most common carpet stains are:

  • drinks
  • various foods
  • stains caused by domestic animals
  • chemicals (detergents, dyes, etc.)
  • blood from wound - cut

Although the chances of our carpet getting dirty are high, most stains are manageable when they are removed immediately. In case we find a stain on our carpet in time, we clean it as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the carpet.

The stains vary depending on the time of their creation, but mainly based on the substances that caused them each time.

There are some stains that are the absolute enemy of carpets. Thus, many of our favorite products, foods or beverages can become dangerous to them.

Let's count down the 10 worst stains that can damage our carpet.

10. Beer

Beer

Although this drink does not cross our mind due to its not so intense color, it can damage our carpet if not treated in time.

The problem in this case is not the appearance but the smell, since if we do not wash the carpet immediately, thus removing the beer, then it will be difficult to get rid of the smell.

9. Tomato sauce

Cleaning tomato stain on carpet

Tomato sauce, like anything red, is a great danger for our carpet, as due to the specific color, the stain quickly reaches the lower levels of the carpet, destroying its texture and color.

In this case, the stain should be removed on the surface and then our carpet should be washed immediately.

8. Wax

Removing the wax from the carpet is particularly difficult due to its ability to stick and harden, resulting in the carpet fibers hardening accordingly.

Heat is a good way to manage the stain, but it needs attention and that's why it would be best to consult a professional in carpet cleaning.

7. Coffee

6. Blood

Cleaning a red stain on a carpet

The stain left by the blood resembles the stain of wine or grape juice.

It is very important to remove it immediately because when it dries it is quite difficult to clean and remains as a print on the surface of the carpet.

Therefore, the longer you wait and leave the blood stain, the harder it will be to remove.

5. Ink

Bleach is a very powerful liquid that whitens our clothes.

However, if even one drop falls on our carpet, it can be completely destroyed.

How can I deal with stains created by the above materials?

Dealing with carpet stains from beer, blood, tomato sauce, coffee or wine

For stains created by beer, blood, tomato sauce or coffee, you can first use a towel or paper towel to pull out the liquid element.

Next, it is recommended to mix a tablespoon of dish detergent with a tablespoon of white vinegar in hot water. Finally, apply this liquid little by little on the carpet and wipe lightly with a white cloth.

The same practice can be used on stains caused by wine, only instead of vinegar it is recommended to use baking soda in the mixture.

Dealing with carpet stains from chocolate

For chocolate stains, the best solution is to immediately pour cold water and leave for a few minutes.

In the second phase and after wiping lightly with a cloth, repeat the process.

Dealing with carpet stains from ink

The ink can be removed from your carpet using an alcoholic solution on a cotton ball and left on the carpet for a few minutes. Then, it is recommended to use hot water on the carpet and gradually remove it using a white cloth. Ink may seem like a scary enemy to your rug, but after the procedure mentioned above, it can be removed almost effectively when washed.

Dealing with carpet stains from nail polish

For nail polish, it is recommended to wet your carpet with cold water. In the next step, apply hairspray in combination with a minimum of alcohol for about 15-20 minutes and remove with a scrub brush.

Dealing with carpet stains from wax

Finally, the wax can be removed if you apply a cotton towel on the stain and then press with the iron at a very high temperature for 10 seconds. The candle will heat up and stick to the towel. Repeat as many times as needed.

Although the above solutions are effective, nevertheless the complete and effective cleaning is carried out through a professional process and with the use of special cleaning machines. For any information, Multiclean is always at your disposal.
